Timber we use...
We offer four core timbers in our furniture and vanity range: Cedar, Oregon, American Oak, and Blackbutt.
Our collection includes both new and recycled timber. The new timber is carefully selected for its quality and consistency, while the recycled timber is sourced locally whenever possible. We recondition the recycled timber to breathe new life into it, honoring its history and embracing the nail and bolt holes, along with markings from its former life. These are plugged and filled where we deem fit. Since no two pieces are ever the same, each item is a one-of-a-kind creation, ensuring your piece is truly unique and irreplaceable.
Cedar
Cedar is a lightweight and stable timber, valued for its tight, straight grain and unique appearance. Its soft tones, ranging from whites and yellows to pale browns and deep dark browns, create a warm and inviting look. While its soft, lightweight nature makes it better suited for low-traffic areas, the occasional knock, scratch, or subtle wear can add to its character, making it a beautiful, distinctive choice for high-quality, timeless pieces.
American Oak
American oak is a strong, durable hardwood known for its exotic, beautiful grain patterns and versatility. It has a coarse, open grain texture and a unique, figured grain pattern that is characteristic of Oak species. It's light to medium brown tones and smooth finish make it a popular choice for furniture, blending well with both classic and modern designs. Resistant to wear, it’s ideal for crafting timeless, long-lasting pieces.
Oregon
Oregon is a versatile and durable softwood valued for its straight grain and warm, pink to orange tones. Lightweight yet strong, it’s ideal for furniture and cabinetry, offering a natural charm that complements both traditional and contemporary designs. We truly enjoy incorporating this timber into our designs, particularly by enhancing its grain with a unique technique that brings out its beautiful, natural texture.
Blackbutt
Blackbutt is a common, durable Australian hardwood known for its light, golden-brown and slight pink tones. It features gum pockets, insect scribbles, black flecks and pinholes, and is mostly straight grained but can sometimes be slightly interlocked. Renowned for its strength and versatility, it’s an excellent choice for furniture, offering a clean look full of character, and exceptional resistance to wear and decay.
We offer two color finishes throughout our furniture range — Sun Bleached and Raw (Natural). Both options are completed with a highly durable, clear, extra-matte coating to protect the timber from everyday wear, tear, and stains. Please note: this water-based finish does not yellow the timber, unlike many traditional clear coats. We’ve spent considerable time researching and perfecting finishes that complement and celebrate the natural tones and textures of these beautiful timbers, without altering the appearance of their raw, unfinished state.
Sun Bleached:
We’ve developed a unique process for our Cedar and Oregon pieces that gives the timber a sun-bleached look, with light, faded tones. This subtle finish enhances compatibility with various home styles, offering a neutral base that pairs effortlessly with other timbers and furnishings. It ensures our furniture integrates beautifully into your space without overwhelming it. This finish is exclusively available on Cedar and Oregon items.
Raw (Natural):
This finish enhances the full, rich color and character of the timber, preserving its organic beauty and authentic form. It highlights the timber’s natural charm with minimal alteration to its raw, unfinished appearance, bringing out the unique qualities of each piece. Available across all timbers in our collection.
